“Kit Glaisyer – The Cinematic Landscape”

'Kit Glaisyer - The Cinematic Landscape' is a major one-man exhibition of contemporary landscape paintings by a leading figure in the vibrant Bridport art scene and one of a new generation of painters that is reinventing the landscape genre. Glaisyer creates immersive paintings that transport the viewer into a heightened relationship with the natural environment – an evocative dreamscape where light, darkness and the transcendent character of nature are embraced.
Glaisyer featured in the 2012 Portrait Prize Exhibition at the Holburne Museum and this year he returns to Bath with a selection of 40 landscape painting at the Octagon Gallery in Milsom Place. The exhibition includes a rare opportunity to see a number of significant works that have kindly been loaned back from private collections. There will also be an installation of a working studio and a daily live performance by the artist at work - offering visitors a unique glimpse into the creative process.
Glaisyer was born in Dorset and moved to London in the early 1990’s, evolving from Figurative to Abstract painting and exhibiting in the Suzanne Ruggles Gallery on the Kings Road. He then moved to Bridport in 1998 and the following year made his studio in a former rope factory on the St Michael’s Trading Estate. Other artists soon joined him and St Michael’s Studios now provide studios for 25 artists and stands at the heart of Bridport’s prized Art & Vintage Quarter.
Over the next few years Glaisyer returned to representational painting and since 2004 he has dedicated himself to exploring the distinctive West Dorset landscape through a series of paintings of panoramic vistas and winding paths, revelling in this magical land of rolling hills, distant valleys and ancient woods.
In 2010 Glaisyer published the book “Portrait of the Artist – 25 Bridport Painters & Sculptors” with photographer George Wright and writer Lu Orza. Glaisyer is currently the Director of the annual Bridport Open Studios event and is Co-Chair of the Spirit of Bridport group - which produced Bridport’s Festival of Culture in 2012. He also features in a recent video “Bridport’s Art & Culture”.
